Following our recent AGM, a new committee has been voted in to lead Parkwood Sharks into 2025. Without further ado, let us introduce you to our newest and 5th member, Risha Iosia-Sipeli.Born and raised in NZ, I made the move across the ditch in 2011. In 2019 I played in the Open Women’s for Runaway Bay. In 2018 my daughter Angel decided she wanted to play rugby league as well. This is where Parkwood Sharks became known to us and the rest, as they say, is history. During my daughter’s time she played for Parkwood, she was selected to play SEQ twice, whilst I managed and coached different age groups at the same time. Our journey came to an end in 2022 where she sustained an injury and our sport outings came to a halt. Low and behold we fast forward to 2024 where a beautiful couple, Vin and Angel, reached out asking if we would like to help at Parkwood and after ALOT of contemplating, we decided (collectively) to return to the Club, which I am very grateful for. This season has been a big year for our entire family. Angel coached her younger sister Marlees U8s team, I coached my son Kauris U6 team and my son in law Kahlani played for DMC, where I also volunteered my time as their league safe. We have developed alot of friendships along the way and some have even turned into our forever family. I’m am so looking forward to what 2025 will bring for our Club!🦈 ... See MoreSee Less
Following our recent AGM, a new committee has been voted in to lead Parkwood Sharks into 2025. Without further ado, let us introduce you to our new Secretary, James Bricknell: Coming from Victoria, all I knew was AFL. That was until moving to the GC when I was 7 and got introduced to the great game of Rugby League. I didn’t start playing until I was 12 after trying out for my school team and from there I fell in love with the game!My journey at Parkwood started in 2003 with the U14s where I was part of an amazing team and a VERY loud and supportive parent crew. Being the new kid, and them not knowing my name, but still wanting to cheer and support me is where my infamous nickname was born thanks the movie at the time, “Harry Potter”. I was lucky to win grand finals in U15s and U16s and to make another finals round in U17s where members of my team were amazing and talented, some going on to play QCup, NRL and Super league. I was proud to achieve playing 50+ games for Parkwood as a Junior. From there, I start playing senior footy where once again I was lucky be apart of some great teams, win a few more grand finals and make some great lifelong friends along the way - topping it off this year with playing my 250th game for this GREAT CLUB!My family has always been heavily involved at Parkwood, running the canteen from 2006-07 and then again from 2009-11. I was honoured in 2007 to win Junior Clubman Of The Year to which I started giving back, by coaching at Parkwood from 2010-2016. After this time my little family moved out to Beaudesert where my eldest started playing and I coached again, only to move back to the Coast in 2021. THIS is home. Parkwood Sharks is where I’ve brought all 5 of my children to come play the great game of Rugby League and have been lucky enough to coach 2 of my boys while I’ve been back. This, however, isn’t my first ‘rodeo’ for being on the committee at Parkwood. For the past 2 years I have been President of this great Club and this year I am taking on a new challenge of being Secretary. I look forward to the 2025 season, to working closely with our new committee and to having another great year here at Parkwood Sharks. ... See MoreSee Less
